Cupel is a porous refractory vessel, mainly made of magnesia or bone ash, specifically used for fire assay. It is an indispensable tool for detecting precious metals such as gold and silver.
- Cupellation : Under high temperature (usually 900ºC-1000ºC), place the lead button containing gold and silver into the crucible for heating.
- Impurity Absorption : Utilize the porous structure of the crucible to absorb oxidized lead (lead oxide) and other base metal oxides.
- Precious Metal Purification : Since gold and silver are not chlorinated and are not absorbed by the crucible, they will eventually remain on the surface of the crucible in the form of shiny gold and silver beads, thus achieving separation and quantitative analysis of precious metals and impurities.

Application Industrial
Use and Storage Method
1. Inspect the crucible for defects such as cracks and sand holes, and confirm that its dimensions meet the requirements of the experiment and heating equipment.
2. Cleaning: Soak new crucibles in dilute hydrochloric acid, rinse with clean water, and then dry. For old crucibles, thoroughly remove any residual substances; this can be done by dissolving with chemical reagents or mechanically polishing.
3. Preheating: Before formal use, preheat in a muffle furnace at 100-200ºC, increasing the temperature to the experimental temperature at a rate of 1-2ºC per minute.
Storage Method:
Store in a dry, well-ventilated environment, avoiding direct contact with the ground (such as brick, soil, or cement floors).
It is recommended to place them on wooden racks or shelves, avoiding stacking and compression.
Use special tools when handling; do not roll them on the ground to prevent collision damage to the glaze.
Environmental Requirements: Keep the storage area clean and free of moisture condensation. Dehumidification equipment may be necessary.
